Stay Connected to the Source

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you,

you will bear much fruit; apart from me, you can do nothing.” – John 15:5

The other day, my boss told me she was having issues with her phone, and she was unable to resolve them. I submitted a help ticket to our IT department, but while waiting, I decided to do some troubleshooting. When I looked at her phone, I noticed a red “X” on her extension, and the parking lot extension, which would normally be green, was grayed out. It was clear that the phone had lost its connection.

I decided to disconnect all the cords from the back of the phone, allowing it to reboot. After a few minutes, I plugged everything back in, and immediately, the connections turned green again. The phone was fully functional, simply because it had been reset and reconnected properly.

This small experience made me reflect on how life sometimes mirrors technology. Just like that phone, there are moments when we feel disconnected—spiritually, emotionally, or even physically. We might experience frustration, confusion, or a lack of direction, much like the red “X” signaling a problem. In those moments, we need to assess our connection to the true source—God.

Unplug and Disconnect

There are times in life when we need to step away and unplug so that we can reboot. Jesus calls us to remain in Him, yet we often allow the distractions of life, stress, or busyness to pull us away. Just as I unplugged the phone to reset it, we, too, need moments of rest and renewal—time spent in prayer, meditation, or stillness in God’s presence.

Give yourself permission to step back when needed. Silence the noise, remove distractions, and allow God to refresh your spirit. Reconnecting with Him brings clarity, peace, and restoration.

What Can Cause Us to Feel Disconnected?

Many things can cause us to feel spiritually or emotionally drained:

  • Busyness and Overcommitment – Filling our schedules to the brim leaves no space to nurture our relationship with God.

  • Doubt and Fear – Life’s challenges can shake our faith, making us feel distant from God’s love and guidance.

  • Unresolved Hurt or Bitterness – Holding onto pain or unforgiveness can create barriers between us and God.

  • Neglecting Prayer and Worship – When we stop making time for God, our spiritual connection weakens.

How Can We Stay Connected?

  • Daily Time with God – Prioritize prayer, Bible reading, and worship. Just as a branch needs to stay connected to the vine, we need to remain in Him.

  • Rest and Renewal – Take intentional breaks to realign with God’s purpose for your life.

  • Community and Fellowship – Surround yourself with people who encourage your faith journey.

  • Trust and Surrender – Let go of control and place your trust in God’s plan.

Just as I witnessed the phone’s system reset and restore its full functionality, we, too, experience renewal when we intentionally reconnect with God. John 15:5 reminds us that apart from Him, we can do nothing. Stay plugged into the source, and you will find strength, direction, and fruitfulness in your journey.

Are you feeling disconnected today? Take a moment to unplug, reset, and reconnect to the true vine—Jesus Christ.
