New Life in The Middle of the Process
“Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth…” — Isaiah 43:19 (KJV)
The other day, I checked my plants to see if they needed watering. As I looked closely, I noticed something interesting. Some of the leaves were dying while, at the same time, new leaves were beginning to spring forth.
It reminded me of how God works in our lives.
Sometimes, when we look at ourselves or our circumstances, all we see are the things that appear to be dying. A relationship has changed. A door has closed. A familiar season has ended. Something we once depended on no longer looks the same.
But what if the thing that is dying is making room for something new?
Isaiah 43:19 says:
“Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it?”
God is not intimidated by the changing seasons of our lives. He knows how to bring new life out of what looks like an ending.
🍃 Sometimes Old Things Have to Die
In order for a plant to continue growing, old leaves sometimes have to fall away. In the same way, God may be asking us to release things that can no longer accompany us into our next season.
There are old things that have to die:
Old and unhealthy habits
Old mindsets and ways of thinking
Old ways of doing things
Old fears
Old wounds
Old patterns
Old relationships with things that God is calling us to release
Old versions of ourselves that no longer reflect who He is making us
This process isn't always comfortable.
Sometimes we want God to give us the new without requiring us to surrender the old.
But new growth requires room.
🌿 Five Steps to Making Room for New Life
1. Recognize What Needs to Go
Ask God to reveal the habits, mindsets, attitudes, wounds, and patterns that are hindering your growth.
2. Release What God Reveals
Don't hold onto something simply because it is familiar. Familiar doesn't always mean healthy, and comfortable doesn't always mean God's will.
3. Allow God to Heal You From the Inside Out
God isn't interested in simply changing our circumstances. He wants to do a work within us.
Healing may require us to confront what we've avoided, forgive what has hurt us, and surrender what we've tried to control.
4. Renew Your Mind
Romans 12:2 reminds us that transformation comes through the renewing of our minds. You cannot step into a new season while continually thinking from an old one.
Let God's Word reshape how you see yourself, your circumstances, and your future.
5. Trust the Process
Just because you don't see the new thing yet doesn't mean God isn't working.
Seeds grow underground before they ever break through the surface.
Trust God even when the process doesn't make sense.
🌸 New Growth Can Happen in Difficult Places
What encourages me most about Isaiah 43:19 is that God doesn't say He will only do a new thing when everything is perfect.
He says He will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
That means renewal can happen in the midst of difficulties, in the midst of conflict, in the midst of uncertainty, and in the midst of whatever situation you may find yourself in.
You may be looking at what appears to be dying, while God is already causing something new to spring forth.
Don't mistake pruning for punishment.
Sometimes God is removing what is no longer producing so that He can make room for what will.
And just like those plants I was checking, you may have some leaves falling away—but look closely.
There may already be new growth.
🍷 New Wine Requires New Wineskins
Jesus said in Matthew 9:17 that new wine is not put into old wineskins.
In this season, God may be preparing you for new wine, but new wine requires a new wineskin.
That means God may be changing not only what is happening around you, but who you are becoming within you.
He's stretching you.
He's healing you.
He's renewing you.
He's changing your perspective.
He's teaching you to trust Him in ways you never had to before.
The old cannot contain everything God is preparing to pour into the new.
🌱 Your New Life Is Springing Forth
Perhaps you're in a season where something feels like it's dying.
Don't give up.
Don't assume the story is over.
Don't focus so much on the leaves that are falling that you fail to notice the leaves that are beginning to grow.
God is still working.
There is new life coming forth.
There is healing coming forth.
There is restoration coming forth.
There is purpose coming forth.
There is a new version of you coming forth.
And your responsibility is to surrender, trust, obey, and allow God to do the work.
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” — Proverbs 3:5 (KJV)
You may not understand what God is removing.
You may not understand why certain things are changing.
You may not understand why the old season had to end.
But you can trust the One who sees what you cannot see.
Look again.
Something may be dying…
but something new is springing forth. 🌱
🌱 New season. New mindset. New growth. New life.
